Nintendo’s next console-based The Legend of Zelda title takes place before The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, making it the oldest story in the timeline as confirmed by Eiji Aonuma in an interview with Nintendo Power Magazine. In this title, Link hails from a land above the clouds called Skyloft. In another interview with ONM, Aonuma stated that “Link is a normal kid living upon these islands above the clouds. But then an incident occurs and Link is forced to travel to the land beneath the clounds, which has been captured and ruled by evil forces. The juxtaposition between the two worlds is very important.”

Skyward Sword will use Wii Motion Plus for precision controls and features an impressionist art style. It takes the vivid and fantastic colors found in The Wind Waker and combines them with the more realistic design style found in Twilight Princess.

In this game, Link and Zelda are friends growing up together in Skyloft, completely unaware of the land below. An ominous villain by the name of Demon Lord Ghirahim abducts Zelda in order to use her Light to resurrect his master.

One of the most storied franchises in history soars to new heights. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword shakes up the tried-and-true adventure game formula and marks a turning point for the franchise. The introduction of full motion controls enabled by Wii MotionPlus technology synchronizes player movements with Link’s actions while offering the most intuitive play control of any game in the series to date.
