Hyrule Warriors (ゼルダ無双 Zeruda Musō, lit. “Zelda Unrivaled”) is an upcoming hack and slash action video game for the Wii U video game console. The game is a collaboration between Tecmo Koei and Nintendo, and will contain elements of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda series and Tecmo Koei’s Dynasty Warriors series. The game is scheduled for release in August 14, 2014 in Japan for the Nintendo Wii U. It will be developed by Omega Force, Team Ninja, and Nintendo SPDSatoru Iwata, president of Nintendo, has stated that Hyrule Warriors will not be part of the canonical The Legend of Zelda storyline, and will instead be a Dynasty Warriors spinoff that simply includes memorable Zelda characters, locations, and items. In typical Dynasty Warriors fashion, Link will be able to battle hordes of memorable enemies from the Zelda franchise, such as bokoblins, lizalfos, dodongos, and more.
It seems that Hyrule Warriors‘ visual style is based off of Nintendo’s most recent Zelda console release, Skyward Sword, both in enemy and world design. The models seem to be reused and touched up, though the water-color style seems to be absent. However, bright and vivid colors still remain, giving the world a more lively and colorful style than what is typically found in a Dynasty Warriors title. While this upcoming titles has brought about mixed reactions among both fanbases, things are leaning more toward a positive outlook for Nintendo and Tecmo Koei’s collaborative title for the Wii U.
