Some pretty cool Zelda prizes have been added to GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards program! Hopefully you’ve been saving up those points! For those who are already GameStop customers, you’ve probably been coerced into signing up for the company’s PowerUp Rewards card, either free or paid. On behalf of my fellow gamer coworkers, I apologize for whatever traumas you had to endure before you cracked and agreed to sign up.

The bright side is that, whether your membership is paid or free, you’ve been accumulating points for every trade and purchase you’ve made (excluding digital goodness like map packs, among many other things you should accrue points for….), and GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards program has some nice Zelda prizes every now and then. We’ve seen hats, wallets, DVDs (many of which are still available), but some of the nicer-looking stuff has only recently been added to the physical rewards list. Of course, they go for around 10,000 points each, but that adds up pretty quickly. A good way to add up even more is to get your friends to use your card, too. Yeah, it’s cheating, but as long as a membership card is scanned during your transaction, the employees won’t care. It helps their numbers look good to the Overlords, and they don’t have to regurgitate the PUR speech for the 405th time that day. Trust me, we hate it as much as you do. Probably more.

Zelda Belt Buckle

For those of you who don’t have a card, get one! Unless you don’t shop there. Ever. But if you do, even rarely, get one. The Zelda prizes make up for everything! The hat isn’t the nicest they’ve had up, but they also haven’t had a green one for a long time, so add it to your collection! The belt buckle is probably one of the best looking Zelda-themed ones on the market so far, and the mini-backpack is pretty cool too, but it might be a bit too mini for the macho men out there.

In any case, here’s a free way to add to your collection (assuming you have points, that is!). Shipping is free, and the Zelda prizes usually arrive in the mail less than a week after you’ve ordered them.

So you want a Zelda ring but they’re all pretty expensive, right? Maybe Mother’s Day gifts have left your Giant’s Wallet rupee-less, or maybe you just don’t have that much money to spend. Etsy store RekonsWorkshop has crafted an affordable solution to your dilemma! These affordable Hylian Crest Zelda rings (pictured above) are crafted from pewter, an alloy medium popular in the middle ages (how fitting!) that shares similarities with copper.

Handcast of pewter in a hand-carved soapstone mold, the way pewtercasting has been done for centuries, this ring features the crest of Hyrule from the Legend of Zelda game series (a favorite in my household). The ring is open-backed and adjustable, and cast in lead-free pewter.

Because this Zelda ring is made from pewter, it is slightly malleable, which allows for this open-backed style to be adjusted to your own size. If not buying one for yourself, it makes for a great gift if you don’t know the recipients ring size. You could even purchase a pair for you and your significant other or your best friend w̶h̶o̶ ̶b̶e̶t̶t̶e̶r̶ ̶l̶o̶v̶e̶ ̶Z̶e̶l̶d̶a̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶m̶u̶c̶h̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶d̶o̶ !

The best part is that these easily affordable Hylian Crest Zelda rings are only $10.00 USD! That’s it! Free shipping to the US or Canada, and just $5.00 USD elsewhere! So if you’ve been looking for a nice Zelda-themed ring without breaking the bank, here it is! The Knights of Hyrule staff has already purchased their own, so treat yourself to some Legend of Zelda goodness and get yourself one, too!

Additional Info

As a side note, Rekon also creates custom rings in this style, so if you’re looking for something a little different, maybe you can commission something like the Triforce, a Zelda song, or even Hylian script! Check out the shop!

You, too, can buy your very own Hyrule Castle for a meager 113,807,400 dollars!….er, rupees!

In an article that hits the sweet spot between gaming-geek and academic-geek (we say that with love for our fellow geeks and nerds), the folks over at Movoto have calculated the cost of purchasing the finest in Hyrulean real estate! How exciting!

Now I didn’t just pull this number out of my Bomb Bag; like any good Zeldaholic, I traversed the world of Hyrule via forums and research to find the answer. Read on to find out how I got there.

The author compares Ocarina of Time‘s version of Hyrule Castle and its surrounding environment to real-world locations, scales in-game models for accuracy, and even compares Dollar-to-Rupee ratios. Hyrule Castle is also among Movoto’s priciest evaluations in terms of dollar (rupee!) per square foot in their collection of fantasy real estate. Pretty impressive! We at KOH wonder if the Knights’ Quarters are included!

Read their entire article and let us know if you think their calculations are right, and if you’d want to buy Hyrule Castle for yourself, or if you’d prefer something a little more affordable like, say… Lon Lon Ranch?

Aonuma has revealed that the idea behind giving link the ability to turn into a drawing in A Link to the Past 2 came to him while reminiscing about Ocarina of Time, specifically the battle with Phantom Ganon in the Forest Temple. While inside the portrait, Phantom Ganon appeared to be a drawing, and being able to emerge into the “real” world was an idea he believes Zelda can benefit from with the 3DS’s technology.

“What if Link could have the same power?” -Eiji Aonuma

It seems like this time around, Aonuma is the one coming up with these unique ideas in A Link to the Past 2, instead of Miyamoto. In the interview with CNET, Aonuma repeatedly stressed the importance of playing the game in 3D, but he assures gamers that it is enjoyable with or without it, and he believes that A Link to the Past 2 will be the most inventive Zelda game yet!

So what do you think, Zelda fans? Do you like the idea of “Doodle-Link”? Do you intend to play with 3D effects turned on? Let us know in the comments!

In Japan’s recent Nintendo Wii U Direct focusing on Miiverse, Eiji Aonuma revealed that A Link to the Past 2 has been in development since 2011. This may not come as a surprise to fans who track development, as you might recall Miyamoto’s constant mentioning of his interest in remaking A Link to the Past. Perhaps, like Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past 2 started out as a remake and evolved into something more!

Aonuma went on to mention the game’s progress and his satisfaction with it thus far:

“The world of Hyrule has been reborn in a highly realistic stereoscopic vision, which will feature a new story and new puzzles to be solved. The development for the successor of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is going smoothly, so, please look forward to it!”Series Producer, Eiji Aonuma

The game, available Holiday 2013, takes place in the same “game world” as ALttP but is not a remake.

There is a ’2′ in the Japanese title… From a story perspective there are connections… o it does fall after A Link to the Past.
Additionally, Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons are being re-released for the 3DS and will be available on May 30.

[00:38] Wayne Larkin:In Majora’s Mask, Termina is referred to as a parallel version of Hyrule. So does this mean that the people of Termina are just as real as those of Hyrule, just in a parallel dimension? The whole thing confuses me a little

[03:04] pamendez3: What is your opinion on a dark zelda game? I think there should be a dark version of zelda. Much darker than than Majora’s mask. I’m not talking about a horror game, I don’t like those, just a darker or more mature perspective on the zelda games. Maybe this could be a genre for the kids that grew up with zelda and have grown older over the years like me, I’m in my third year of college. I still love all the other zelda games though. What’s your opinion on this? Will it be a cool concept or not?

[09:50] Snesman91: ilu do you think nintendo took ideas for the zelda series from fantasy movies like the never ending story? Theres rock monters that eat rocks in the movie and theres a giant talking turtle, and a young boy and his horse. and a girls who needs help.<fb:like href='http://www.knightsofhyrule.org/2013/04/kooloo-limpah-121-termina-twilight-zelda-angst/' send='false' layout='standard' show_faces='true' width='450' height='65' action='like' colorscheme='light' font='lucida grande'></fb:like>

After watching Anita Sarkeesian’s Video Game Tropes vs Women, Zelda fan and artist, Arron Diaz, was inspired to create a story that would prove that Zelda would make just as great a protagonist as Link, and even replace him as the player’s avatar. And thus, Clockwork Empire was born!

This concept work is meant to show that Zelda as a game protagonist can be both compelling and true to the franchise, while bringing new and dynamic game elements that go farther than being a simple gender swap.Arron Diaz, Dresden Codak Author

Social commentary aside, Clockwork Empire retains Zelda elements from classic and recent Zelda titles, keeping true to the series’ mythos. Sure it stretches and breaks the canon with some minor details, but that’s beside the point: the story is believable and captures the core of The Legend of Zelda.

Clockwork Empire is set 2,000 years after Twilight Princess, and a lot of the game’s themes and designs are carried over and refreshed. Zelda’s costumes include a Sheikah outfit, Hylian Knight Armor (Magic Armor), and an Airship Captain’s costume. However, there are classic names and titles used within the story that will please even the oldest Zelda fans: The Gauntlet of Gamelon, Calatian Empire, and Dragmire. And hey, Midna is in it, too! Aside from all that, the artwork is beautiful and fits neatly between Zelda’s whimsy and mystery, truly capturing the feel of an land just waiting to be explored.

The idea around this story really does show that Zelda would make just as great a hero as Link, and if it includes the right elements, would fit right in with the rest of the Zelda universe. What do you think, should Nintendo take a stab at this concept, not specifically Clockwork Empire, in the future? Should Link, the iconic boy clad in green, remain a male avatar? Do you even care as long as you get a good Zelda game out of it?
